There are nonsteroidal products using glycyrrhetinic acid derived from a herb, "licorice." Glycyrrhetinic acid is well known to suppress inflammation, and its action is generally considered to be milder than steroids.
However, if large amounts of licorice and glycyrrhetinic acid are used for a long time, the side effect called "pseudoaldosteronism" may occur on rare occasions. This symptoms is such as "swelling of hands and feet," "stiffness of hands," and "high blood pressure."
If you experience any of these serious symptoms, stop using the medicine immediately and consult a doctor.
