To prevent rough skin around the anus, it is important not to wipe the area too much or wash it too much in daily life. Even if you keep it sweaty, the skin will get rough. Thus, you should be careful not to sit for a long time.
In addition to such daily care, moisturizers can also be effective to prevent the perianal skin from getting dry.
Moisturizers can be divided into two types: “emollients”, which prevent moisture evaporation, and “humectants”, which retain moisture.
Emollients help protect the skin by covering its surface and making an oil film. The oil film not only blocks water evaporation from the skin, but also protects the skin from external foreign substances and irritations. This includes oil such as petrolatum vaseline and squalene.1),2)
Humectants themselves, or their combination with skin components, are very helpful to retain moisture. They penetrate and function into the stratum corneum. This type includes glycerin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid. However, humectants do not block water evaporation. Therefore, avoid using humectants when the anus is sweaty.3)
Moisturizers can play a major role in protecting the perianal skin when used based on the understanding of their intended use. Why do you not add them to your daily routines?
